Southwood Practice Flu Season 2018-19
This information is to advise you of the clinical recommendations around the most effective flu vaccine for patients for the 2018/19 NHS flu vaccination programme.
There are different flu vaccinations depending on your age :
Aged 65 and over to receive the adjuvant trivalent flu vaccine (aTIV) aged 65 and over (on the 31st March 2019).
Aged 18 to under 65 and 6 month to 2 years to receive quadravalent vaccine (QIV)
Aged 2 years to under 18 to receive the Live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) (Nasal Spray)
This decision was made on the basis of strong clinical evidence that this is the most effective ways of vaccinating our eligible patients, for further information please read The Flu vaccination - Public health England (click on the text to open).
To manage both QIV and aTIV vaccine supply across the UK, there are planned deliveries to UK GP practices in three phases. The practice will schedule appointments aligned with the deliveries. It is important to vaccinate promptly but also not too early to ensure you are protected.
Children at risk aged 6 months to under 18 years of age will be offered appointments at the Surgery in late October.
Primary school children not in an at risk category in reception class and school years 1,2,3,4,5 (born between 01.09.2008 and 31.08.2014) will be vaccinated by the school nurses and not the surgery.
Flu clinic appointments at the surgery will be available for booking soon. We will update our website and notify patients by text or letter when we start booking our clinics. Your patience is appreciated.

Practice Merger UpDate August 2018
We would like to provide an update regarding preparations to merge Milestone and Southwood Practices.
The Partners and Practice Managers continue to work through the many tasks required to enable a smooth transition to create the new ‘Voyager Family Health’ Practice.
This includes designing the new clinical arrangements, IT, managerial and business arrangements, liaison with the CCG, as well as legal agreements.
What has become clear is that the expected new building will not become available until later than anticipated. With this in mind the Partners have decided to reschedule the practice merger date until 1st April 2019. This change gives a number of advantages and given there is now no need to rush we can more thoroughly prepare for what is the most significant and exciting development for both Practices in recent years.
Whilst the change to the formal merger date may be disappointing, there will be increasing joint working between the two practices before then. This includes joint appointments of any new staff. We are already advertising for a further Practice Nurse to work across both Practices and further strengthen our excellent nursing team. There will also be joint working of our Clinical Pharmacist, extension of the Paramedic Practitioner service to Southwood and the development of an Urgent Care team for ‘Duty days’.
And most importantly the two practices will have a combined Christmas Celebration Party and our newly formed Social Committee is working hard to ensure we all have an excellent evening!

The partners at Milestone Surgery and Southwood Practice would like to provide an update regarding our practice merger.
We continue to work towards our merge date of 1st April 2019 and although we will become Voyager Family Health on this date, we will continue to operate from both the Milestone and Southwood buildings initially. We don’t anticipate that our new premises will be ready to move into for at least a year; however we are planning to make the most of our new partnership by sharing our skill mix and once our clinical systems are integrated properly, we hope to be able to offer our patients improved access across both surgeries.
We will continue to provide you with regular updates over the coming months and the most up to date information will be posted on this page.

Please allow 72 working hours from 6.30 pm on the day of submission for your prescription to be processed and issued (this does not include the weekend or bank holidays).
Urgent requests can no longer be processed inside the 72 hours, if you run out and have a regular chemist they can assist.
Medication reviews are important please ensure you book your review before the date indicated. Prescriptions may not be issued or quantities may be reduced where patients have not attended for a medication review.
You can eConsult with your own GP/Admin Team at your own convenience and we will aim to get back to you within 48 hours.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
Southwood Practice has started to prepare for the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation on 25th May 2018, and how it will affect the way that the surgery processes your personal data, including confidential health records.
We will ensure that all patients at Southwood Practices are made aware of their rights under the new legislation and that the surgery meets its responsibilities under the GDPR.
We would like to notify our patients that our Reception Team will be asking you some very brief details regarding your request for an appointment.
Please indicate the nature and urgency of your problem so we can help you as efficiently as possible.
This will ensure that you are booked in with the correct Healthcare Professional and that the quickest route to treatment or advice is taken.
We encourage the use of self help and seeking advice from a pharmacist before contacting the GP. You can find local services and self-help information from the www.nhs.uk website.
If you are calling for test results, please call between 1-3pm. If you have had a test or investigation performed under a Consultant at the hospital we are unable to give you the result, you will need to contact the hospital directly.
If you have a query with a referral or insurance report please contact the Medical Secretaries on 01252 371715. There is no need to speak to a GP if you have an on-going referral query.
